Translational Research

As part of an elite group of National Cancer Institute (NCI) -Comprehensive Cancer Centers, Moffitt focuses on the development of early stage translational research aimed at the rapid translation of scientific discoveries to benefit patient care.

Tradition of excellence

Since the first patient admission in October 1986, Moffitt physicians, scientists and staff members have worked together to establish a tradition of excellence offered in an atmosphere characterized by kindness, caring and hope. The Cancer Center's future growth in clinical care and research rests firmly on this tradition and makes possible the changes ahead.

Moffitt Facts

Moffitt Cancer Center is a not for-profit institution. It includes private patient rooms, the Southeast’s largest Blood and Marrow Transplant Program, outpatient treatment programs that record more than 135, 000 visits a year, the Moffitt Research Center, The Moffitt Clinic at Tampa General Hospital, and the Lifetime Cancer Screening Center.

In 2003, Moffitt opened its doors to the new Moffitt Clinic and Vincent A. Stabile Research Building. These two buildings dramatically increase the existing research and outpatient clinical space to better serve our patients.


There are no openings currently at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute.


Benefits Package

Moffitt offers a comprehensive, competitive benefits package to all benefit-eligible employees. Most of the benefit plans for eligible employees are effective on the first of the month following a 30-day waiting period.

Under the Cancer Center benefits plan, employees are given the freedom to choose the benefits that best meet their needs. Both the Cancer Center and the employee share in the cost for most of the benefits that are offered. The Cancer Center's plan year is January 1st through December 31st .

Medical Plan
Under the Cancer Center benefits plan we offer benefit-eligible employees three medical plan options. The Cancer Center offers a Point of Service, and two HMO plans. The Cancer Center and employees share in the cost of the premiums. If you elect not to participate in any of the Cancer Center medical plans, then Moffitt will pay you money on a biweekly basis depending on your benefit/employment status.

Dental Plan
Tthe Cancer Center offers benefit-eligible employees one dental plan. Our standard dental package has an in and out of network benefit feature. This option allows employees to visit a dentist that either participates with United Healthcare or any dentist of choice.

Company-Provided Basic Term Life & Accidental Death and Dismemberment
The Cancer Center contributes 100% toward basic term life & accidental death and dismemberment insurance. We offer benefit-eligible employees a company provided basic term life & accidental death and dismemberment benefit that is two times their base annual salary.

Supplemental Life Insurance
The Cancer Center offers additional group insurance called supplemental life insurance at group rates, based on age, salary and smoking status. You are able to purchase up to two times your annual salary. (Both Basic Term Life and Supplemental Life must not exceed $1 million)

Dependent Life Insurance
The Cancer Center offers three bundled packages for dependent life insurance at a low bi-weekly cost. Employees must participate in the Supplemental Life Insurance plan to be eligible for this benefit.

Long Term Disability
The Cancer Center offers a company provided long-term disability plan at no cost with a benefit of 50% of salary beginning after a 90-day elimination period. You do have the option to buy up to a benefit of 90 days and a monthly benefit of 66.67%.

Vision
The Cancer Center offers a vision benefit through VisionCare at low group rates. The cost of this benefit is paid for entirely by the employee.

Flexible Spending Account(s)
Employees may use the flexible spending accounts to direct a portion of pre-tax salary to pay for eligible flexible spending expenses. The Cancer Center offers both a Healthcare and a Dependent Care account. The maximum that an employee is allowed to contribute in each account is $5,000 per plan year.

Moffitt Child Development Center (Day Care)
The Moffitt Child Development Center is managed by Bright Horizon's Family Solutions and is located on USF's campus near Moffitt's main hospital. Care begins for infants from six weeks old all the way through school age children. Operation of the facility is Monday through Friday, 6:15 am to 6:15 pm. The teacher-child ratio: Infant 1:3; Toddler 1:4; Twos 1:6; Preschool 1:10; School Age 1:15.

Paid Time Off
The Cancer Center offers a consolidated program combining time off for vacations, holidays and unexpected absences such as personal illness, family emergency, bereavement, etc. called Paid Time Off (PTO). All full-time and part-time eligible employees earn PTO. PTO accrual is based on employment status, and exempt vs. non-exempt status. Full-time PTO accrual begins at 24 days per year and is accrued on a bi-weekly basis. Part-Time PTO accrual is based on hours worked.

Major Illness Benefit
The Cancer Center allows full-time employees to earn major illness hours that may be used for an employee's illness. All full-time, benefit-eligible employees accrue a total of twelve days per year at the rate of eight hours per month.

Retirement Plan
The Cancer Center makes a contribution of 5.25% of gross pay for all employees every pay period after one year of service. Vesting begins at 20% after the second year of employment and increases to 100% after five years of service.

The tax deferred mutual fund, 403b, allows employees to begin immediate participation in the retirement plan. The current match is 25% of the first 4% of the contribution.

Educational Assistance
The Cancer Center has an educational assistance program that is offered to both part-time and full-time employees after six months of service. The maximum reimbursement per employee is $3,000 for full-time employees and $1,500 for part-time employees per calendar year for undergraduate courses. Graduate level courses will be reimbursed at $4,000 for full-time employees/$2,000 for part-time employees per calendar year. An employee must obtain a C or better to
